New: Theatrical Improvisation Class, Sunday August 31, 12:30-3:30 at 180 Lead Mine Road, Madison.

Story in the present moment

An introduction to a set of techniques for improvisational work arising from nonverbal awareness in our bodies, alive in the present moment. Together we will create a supportive community in which we can explore what is present for us in our own stories and those of others. This is work that moves from the ground up. All are welcome, no experience is necessary.

Beverly’s work here draws from sources including the theatrical work of Jean-Claude van Itallie and Emily Conrad’s Continuum Movement. Other sources and influences include Robert Fritz, Meredith Monk, Laurie Anderson and Bayo Akomolafe.

I offer private lessons in the Wolfeboro/Ossipee area and online via Zoom, FaceTime or Google Meet. I also coach bands and offer workshops covering particular styles or instruments. I enjoy teaching motivated students at any level; beginners are welcome!

If you live outside the immediate area, consider visiting the scenic lakes region of New Hampshire for a day, weekend or weeklong music intensive. There are many places to stay nearby, from campgrounds to B&Bs, and lots of seasonal outdoor activities to enjoy while you’re here.

I have over 35 years of experience in teaching music, and I enjoy doing it. Instruments I teach include piano, hammered dulcimer, tsimbl, mandolin, bouzouki, fiddle, nyckelharpa, folk harp, fretted dulcimer, acoustic guitar,  autoharp, hurdy gurdy, and many more.

I also teach voice, with a focus on becoming more comfortable in your own natural voice and exploring expressive possibilities that are unique to each of us. My lessons incorporate breath, sound and movement techniques I  learned from Emilie Conrad, founder of Continuum Movement, and others. Come join me for an adventure!

Please call or email me for details or to schedule a lesson.

Some instruments are available for sale if you are considering lessons and don’t have an instrument yet. Right now I have a mandolin, several violins, an autoharp, a fretted dulcimer, a keyboard, an accordion, and a Celtic harp available. I also have a tsimbl (chromatic hammered dulcimer) available for rent if you’d like to try that out.

If you are interested in learning to play the nyckelharpa, the American Nyckelharpa Association has a loaner program to help you get started, so that we can begin lessons right away, instead of waiting for an instrument to be built for you.

You are welcome to contact me for details or instrument recommendations for any instrument I teach.
